Turning four

Randy Astle is a children's television writer as well as a screenwriter, author, and filmmaker of other works. He grew up in Salt Lake City on such classics as Sesame Street and Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, reading voraciously and coming to love drawing, writing, and music. Early aspirations to become an animator eventually broadened to include all aspects of filmmaking and writing fiction, drama, criticism, and poetry. Randy received a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University in screenwriting with minors in English and business management. He followed that with a master's degree from the London Film School in the UK, where in addition to directing he was able to study cinematography, sound recording, production design, and editing.

Randy, who now lives in New York City, has taught film theory at BYU, produced his own short films, written and edited film criticism, given tours at the Museum of the Moving Image, and worked in freelance postproduction. Since 2008 he has focused on children's television, writing and consulting on scripts and bibles for companies in America and abroad. He has written spec scripts of nine top children's shows, available on this website, and attended MIP Junior in France, KidScreen Summit in New York, and the Little Airplane Academy on preschool television production. In addition to children's media and literature Randy is interested in Shakespeare, Mormon cinema, video art, and dance film. His work has screened from Orem, Utah to Brussels, Belgium and he has won awards from organizations as diverse as the Tribeca Film Festival and the Association for Mormon Letters.
